  • The girls of the Lupa contrada prepare plates for dinner and fool around in the contrada%u2019s kitchen the night before the Palio. The dinners host hundreds of contradioli and serve as both a way to celebrate the contrada and to bond as a community.

  • From right, the Drago, Onda, Lupa, Leocorno, Oca, Pantera, and Valdimontone contradas race against each other in the August Palio. There are no rules in the Palio and the jockeys are all equipped with whips that they may use in any way they choose. They may whip their opponents to gain an advantage, fulfill a bribe, or to spur their horses on.
